This site collects close to nothing about you. Here is the whole of it.
There is no account, and nothing to sign up for
You can read every page on this site without giving us anything. There is no login, no newsletter box, no gate in front of a clinic profile, and nothing you have to agree to before reading.
What happens to a ZIP code or city you type in
The care finder and the search on Find care ask for a city or ZIP code so they can send you to the right city guide. That matching happens in your own browser, against a list of the cities we cover that is already part of the page. Your ZIP code is not sent to us as part of finding your city. That is a narrower promise than it sounds, so read it next to what we count below: we never receive what you typed, and we do separately get a rough idea of where you are from your internet connection.
When the care finder cannot match what you typed, it keeps a note of the place in your own browser's storage, and that note stays there. We are told that the finder failed to match a place, and we are not told the place. If you use the link it offers to email us about a city we are missing, then of course we have your email address, because you sent it, and the place you named is in the message you wrote.
Answers you give the care finder
The finder asks two questions about what you are looking for and then uses your answers to decide which clinics to show first. We count which of the four answers people pick, because that is how we learn what to build next. They are four fixed choices rather than anything you write, they are not attached to a name, an email address or a profile, and they travel in the address of the city guide the finder sends you to, so you can see them.
What we count
We count page views and clicks, so we know which cities and which pages are worth building next. That is the whole reason we count anything. It tells us that a hundred people read the Boston guide this week and four of them opened a clinic's own website. It does not tell us who any of them were.
The tool is called PostHog. It sets no cookies on this site, and it does not build a profile of you. We have turned off the parts of it that would: it does not record your screen, it does not replay your session, and it does not draw a heatmap of where you moved your mouse. It does not read what you type into a box.
That last sentence is the one we hold ourselves to hardest, so here is how. Every count this site records is picked from a fixed list written down in our code: the name of a city guide, the name of a clinic, which of four answers you chose, whether a search found a match or did not. Nothing you compose yourself is on that list. A check runs before every deploy that reads the code and fails it if a count carries anything you typed.
Your rough location comes along with the count. From your internet connection we get a country, a state and the nearest city. We use it to decide which cities to research next, and it is the most useful thing we learn all week: someone in Seattle reading the Boston guide is how we find out where to go.
It is rough, and worth knowing how rough. It is the city your connection appears to be in, which is often not the one you are standing in, and a phone or a work network or a VPN can put you in another state entirely. We do not keep the internet address it was worked out from.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we do not count you at all.
One more detail, because the promise above rests on it too. PostHog keeps a random anonymous number in your own browser's storage, so that reloading a page is not counted as two different people. It is not a cookie, it is not sent to any other site, and it is not attached to a name, an email address or anything you have told us. No profile is built from it on our side, and clearing your browser storage throws it away.
Cookies
We set no advertising cookies and run no advertising trackers. Nothing on this page is trying to follow you to another site.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent data about you to anyone, including the clinics listed here.
- We do not tell a clinic that you looked at its profile.
- We do not ask for health information, and you should not send us any.
- We do not build a profile of you, and nothing we count is tied to who you are.
That last point is worth being plain about given what this site is about. Which clinics a person reads about can reveal a great deal. So we keep the count and not the person: we know how many people opened a profile, and roughly which part of the country they were in, and nothing we hold says who any of them was.
Leaving this site
Clinic profiles link out to clinics' own websites and booking pages. Once you are there you are on their site under their privacy policy, not ours.
